Further Property Notes:
The house was designed and built by local architect Arthur Mettham in 1912. The original plans hanging in the hall are dated December 1911.
He built the house in, the modern for then, Arts and Crafts design incorporating many much older features which were reclaimed from local restoration projects. For example there are 3 fireplaces with17th Century Delft tiles and one with 17th Century carved wood surround from a church pulpit. A large fireplace in the main bedroom is tiled with rare mauve Delft tiles. The floors down stairs are reclaimed solid oak as is the staircase and many of the doors. There are examples of original art nouveau stained glass in a door and window.
Mr Mettham lived in the house with his wife for almost 2 years until the outbreak of First World War. He was killed in Archangel, Russia in November 1918, having never met his baby son.
His wife and son lived in the house until the 1960's when after the death of his mother, John Mettham sold the property in 1966. The house had been completely unchanged since it was built.
It has undergone some changes over the last 60 years but the all the main features remain just as the house was built.
